30-Day Meal Plan: 8 Months

Thicker Textures, Combinations & Early Finger Foods

At 8 months, your baby is ready for thicker textures, food combinations, and early soft finger foods. They're developing a pincer grasp and want to feed themselves. This is the time to expand variety significantly and introduce the Top 9 allergens one at a time. Breast milk or formula is still 3–4 feeds per day.

✅ Readiness Signs at 8 Months

  • Sits up independently and steadily
  • Developing a pincer grasp (thumb + forefinger)
  • Attempts to pick up objects and bring to mouth
  • Comfortable with puréed foods and wants more
  • Shows enthusiasm at mealtimes

🚫 Still Avoid at 8 Months

  • Honey — Still dangerous until 12 months
  • Cow's milk as drink — Still breast milk/formula only
  • Salt & sugar — Continue to avoid all added seasonings
  • Whole grapes — Choking hazard — cut into quarters
  • Hard raw vegetables — Choking hazard — always cooked soft
  • Hot dogs/sausages — Choking hazard and high sodium
  • Sticky foods (peanut butter in large amounts) — Choking risk — use thin smears only
  • Fish high in mercury — Swordfish, shark, tilefish, king mackerel
